Ocean City NJ Proposal | NJ Beach Surprise Proposal | Zach and Alexis engaged

Ocean City NJ Proposal. One of my favorite sessions to photograph are surprise proposals! I enjoy them wherever they are but love them when they happen on the beach.  Zach and his mom contacted me the beginning of April about photographing a surprise proposal in Ocean city, NJ.  Zach wanted to propose to his girlfriend, Alexis, on the beach near their family home. We were hoping for good weather on the date he chose, because it was their 3rd year anniversary.

Zach and Alexis went to the same middle school and the same high school, but never really talked or hung out in the same circle of friends. It wasn’t until a few years after they graduated that they meet up with each other again at a mutual friend’s house.  The two of them starting chatting that night. It didn’t take long for the two of them to become very close friends and they started to spend every weekend together. After a few months they both knew they were on to something special and started to officially date.  3 years later…Zach proposed!

Looking for Dolphins

One of the fun things about surprise proposals is putting together a plan. I have had to hide in bushes, pretend like I am just hanging on the beach and have had the proposal happen in the middle of a session.  It doesn’t matter how it starts, there just has to be one thing that  in place, the plan.  The how, where and start of the proposal are key to making sure that all the moments are captured.

Zach knew the location, the beach, but needed a way to get Alexis done there without her thinking that something was up.  He told her that at about 6pm a huge school of dolphins were going to be swimming near their beach.  I guess he told her there is an app for that.  Ha-ha.  I was just going to be sitting on the beach.  Since she knew that there was a potential of seeing dolphins having someone there taking photos of the ocean wasn’t a big deal.  That was our plan.  I just needed to know what the sign was that he was going to begin.

Zach was going to point out to the ocean and get Alexis to look out then kneel behind her.  It was all going well but Alexis kept walking further away.  ha-ha.  He finally got her to stop, and the plan started.  Alexis was surprised and she had tears in her eyes.  They celebrated by popping champagne! Then we took some photos of the two of them enjoying the moment and of her gorgeous ring.  Zach picked out a beautiful diamond for his girl.

Ocean City Nj Surprise Proposal

It was a tad breezy and a little chilly but that didn’t stop the plan. The plan worked and the two of them got engaged. Yay!!  This was my 11th surprise proposal and I have loved being part of every one of them.  I have even photographed a couple of their weddings which I adore being able to photograph their complete love story.  I have a sign that I made for my first proposal and have had each couple after that hold it for photographs. Their names and dates are written on the back.

If you are thinking about proposing and want to have a photographer there to capture the moment, contact me! We will put a plan together and your significant other will love that you took the time to have a photographer there capturing the special moment!! Believe me, they will love it!!
