Tommy and Jessica | Cape May Surprise Proposal | Jersey beach Engagement

Cape May surprise proposal. I just love capturing these moments in a couple’s story! This was the 11th surprise proposal that I have had the pleasure of photographing. The proposals have been on docks, on the beach and under a gazebo on a rainy day. I have hidden in bushes, pretended like I was taking pictures of nature and have acted like we were doing a regular photography session until they proposed. I enjoy putting together these action plans to make sure that it all goes down perfectly. ha-ha

Working out a plan with Tommy for the proposal was fun.  He was incredibly detailed, and we exchanged many emails going over the perfect location and what he was going to do. He knew Jessica would love the beach and they both love lighthouses. I had the perfect location, Cape May Point State Park. Unfortunately, the weather kept changing so we also had to have a plan b in place if it rained. Thankfully that day the weather looked good so our original plan was a go.  I was going to be on the beach looking like I was taking pictures of the lighthouse.  Tommy and Jessica were going to walk towards the beach and get in a spot between me and the lighthouse. They were going to take a selfie and Tommy was going to drop his phone.  That was my cue!

Did Jessica know about the surprise proposal?

We had to laugh after he proposed.  Tommy was so nervous and excited that he didn’t quite get into the spot for me to get the lighthouse in the background. Then Jessica realized I was photographing the moment and wanted to take her coat off.  After Jessica said yes, Tommy instantly relaxed and they both started to laugh.  He asked if he ended up in the right spot. ha-ha.

We recreated the moment with the lighthouse in the background and Tommy took his time proposing to Jessica! Of course, she said yes again.  We laughed the whole session talking about the proposal and the moments leading up to it. Jessica said she knew something was going on. Apparently, Tommy was dropping accidental hints all week long.

Their love story

I enjoyed getting to know more about these two and I loved capturing this moment for them.  These two lovebirds are from opposite sides of the US. Tommy is from California and Jessica from New Jersey.  Tommy felt that the rest of his life was going to be on the east coast so 4 years ago he moved to New Jersey.  His intuition was correct because he met Jessica, his soul mate.  Tommy is so excited to spend the rest of his life with her. Tommy described Jessica as his role model and his hero!  Awe, he loves her so much.

Jessica was Tommy’s former supervisor at work. He never thought he had a chance to get to know her better. However, Jessica agreed to go out with Tommy. That was it. They fell in love and knew they were meant to be. Tommy has been committed to making Jessica happy. They laugh uncontrollably about life and enjoy being spontaneous! I could see the love they have for each other.

Cape May Surprise Proposal

Tommy brought some champagne to celebrate the moment. Even though it was a tad chilly we went down to the ocean edge so they could walk along the water.  The sun was peeking through the clouds which gave us some awesome light. All in all, Tommy did good.  It was a perfect moment for the two of them and I was so happy to be able to photograph it for them!
