South Jersey Family Photography. Wow! What a crazy year for Memories by Maria Photography in 2022. The weather was windy, rainy, and chilly this year. Many beach sessions took place with cloudy skies and more of a little breeze. I was worried I would have to reschedule many of my sessions, but thankfully I didn’t need to, and I had the best year! I photographed over 150 beach sessions. There were so many great families and couples I photographed this past year.
I always feel honored to photograph families I have met before, some of whom I have photographed yearly for the past seven years. It is always amazing to see how the kids have grown and changed, and we catch up with how they have all been doing. I am so thankful they trust me with their family memories every year, and also very fortunate that I met so many new families and couples this past year.
SOUTH JERSEY BEACHES
I traveled from the beaches in LBI to the beautiful historic seaside resort, Cape May. This past summer, most of my sessions were in one of my favorite beach areas, Ocean City, NJ. Other beaches I photographed families and couples this summer were Brigantine, Atlantic City, Sea Isle, Avalon, Stone Harbor, Wildwood, Pt. Pleasant, and the beaches near the Delaware River.
Most of my sessions are usually families updating their yearly photos or extended families vacationing at the shore. This past year families were also looking to have fun candid images captured at the beach. I had many romantic surprise proposals, which I adore photographing. I also photographed several engagement sessions. Couples love to have their sessions on the beaches, and the photos are always so beautiful.
Morning Light and Golden hour light
Over half of my beach sessions start one or two hours before sunset. Clients love the golden hour and want to have their sessions while the sun sets. I had more families this year, discovering the beautiful morning light I enjoy. The morning light is incredibly soft and cool about one or two hours after sunrise. So, if you love blue, pink, and purple tones, you will like this light.
Having your sessions at the beach is so much fun. Kids love being on the beach, making for happy smiles most of the time. Everyone wants beautiful sunny days, but mother nature does not let that happen for every session. Sometimes we have cloudy days, which is great for beautiful, filtered light, and sometimes get ocean breezes that are not the best for everyone’s hair.
This year was windier than usual. Mixing that wind with the chilly temperatures that lasted till the beginning of June made it seem like we had no spring. I had a couple of sessions where tiny bugs attacked us, sessions in the fog, and even ate sand when the wind picked up. So even having these slight setbacks, which you cannot control when you are outside at the beach, I always get great shots! I also had beautiful sunny, warm beach days, which I appreciated more than ever this year.

Thank you all so much for trusting me with your family memories. This year I celebrate my 10th anniversary and my seventh year at the Jersey shore. I love seeing familiar faces and always enjoy meeting new families and couples. I hope to see everyone at the shore again this year. My camera is ready!! I am ready to have some beautiful sunny warm beach sessions this year; hear that, mother nature! I cannot wait to put my feet in the warm sand and say, “1..2..3…smile!”
