Cape May Surprise Engagement
This Cape May surprise engagement was just perfect! Rodney contacted me to photograph a surprise proposal to his girlfriend, Cashawn. He knew that a beach proposal would be Cashawn’s dream but wasn’t sure exactly how to put it all together. I gave him a couple of options and he chose to tell Cashawn that he booked a couple’s photo session and he would propose in the middle of the session. We had the perfect evening although we had to change our scheduled time due to a tropical storm rolling in. Everything else went just the way we planned and of course she said yes!!
Their love story
Rodney and Cashawn have such a romantic love story. They met on a Facebook group, Black People Meet, which was created as an arena for paths to cross and to explore others individual uniqueness that would have never happened under normal circumstances. . When I asked them to tell me about their love story Cashawn said what Rodney wrote on this page sums up their story. “All it took were a few words to know that I’d met the woman I was going to spend the rest of my life with. Our love languages matched perfectly and from day one we had a connection that was undeniable as well as unbreakable. And that connection is getting stronger each day.”  They both are so grateful that they found each other a year ago and cannot imagine their world’s without each other.
These two are so in love. I saw that love in every photo that I took!! I didn’t even have to suggest many poses for them to do. Just photographing their natural reactions was just perfect. They are such good snugglers! Cashawn was truly surprised and her reaction was priceless. She had always dreamed of a beach proposal and had no idea that this was going to happen.
Cape May Point State Park
Rodney wasn’t sure where he wanted to propose so I suggested one of my favorite spots in Cape May, Cape May Point State Park. I love this beach because of the lighthouse and it is not a busy beach. We started with some casual photos as we walked down to the beach. I had to laugh later when Rodney was telling me that he was afraid that Cashawn would feel the ring box in his pocket. He had to keep covering it up so she didn’t find it. After we did some couples poses, I brought them down on the beach. I had told Rodney that I would have Cashawn pose for some photos by herself. When I did this, he would get down on his knee behind her. After I took a couple of photos of her, I told her to turn around that she had to see what he was doing behind her. Rodney was there on his knee with the biggest smile, and a huge diamond ring!!
She said Yes!
I just love being part of these surprise engagements. It is such an honor to be chosen to help document this special moment in a couple’s love story. I have been so blessed to be part of several surprise engagements and I love that all of the couples hold a sign I made to document the moment!
Rodney and Cashawn, you two are beautiful and I loved capturing this moment for you. Enjoy this special time as you plan to spend the rest of your lives together. And may you continue to sing duets together every Sunday morning!
